Lake County Triathlon - Fifth Overall!!

Wow! Sometimes it just all comes together on a perfect day. I really could not have asked for a better race on a better day. The weather was absolutely perfect, even a little chill in the early morning air. I wore a sweatshift as I got organized in transition. The race was small. There were 121 finishers in the sprint distance and 82 in the Olympic.

The swim was in Lake Zurich. We took off from the beach at Paulus park for a 1/2 mile u-shaped swim. It seemed like it was just the right distance, maybe a tad on the long side. I felt calm and controlled through the whole swim. I popped out of the water and headed to transition to hop on the bike.

No problems in T1. I headed up Rand Road on a 3 mile false flat that just seemed to go and go. After a quick turn, it was time to lay the speed down. I hit 30 mph in a couple of places on the way back.

Through T2 in a flash to the run and just felt like it took about a mile to find my pace. The pace came down with every subsequent mile and I finished strong in just a hair over 1 hr and 20 minutes. Great race!!

Check out the results.
