Be careful what you ask for...

After several months of swim training, I came to the realization that my coach never assigned a single repeat longer than 200m. No problem when you're in the pool, but in the open water, you can't just stop and hang on to the wall.

In preparing for a recent one mile swim, I decided that I needed to mentally and physically prepare for the challenge by practicing the distance in the pool with no breaks. It really helped, even though it was a very tiring experience. So, upon completion, I told my coach and asked that she schedule longer repeats into my sets.

I hadn't seen any for a couple weeks and just forgot the idea. I woke up this morning and knew that I had a 2600yd workout, but I hadn't looked at the details. To my surprise, I noticed 1X1600yds - time for another long set!

It went well and I was just over 30 minutes - very slow for a real swimmer, but not bad for this novice triathlete. Here's to the long set!
